If you are like me who uses Google Chrome on a daily basis and was wondering or like to know if there is a way how to use Google’s I’m Feeling Lucky using the browser’s “Omnibar” or address bar? Then this step-by-step tutorial is for you. Here’s how:

1) Open your Chrome browser. Don’t have it? Download it here

2) Right-click on the omnibar, then click the “Edit search engines…”

1

3) Click “Add…”

2

4) Enter the following when prompted:

Name: Google Search: I’m Feeling Lucky
Keyword: >
URL: http://www.google.com/search?q=%s&btnI=Im+Feeling+Lucky

3

The “Name” is there to identify your custom search engine. You can use any keyword that you prefer aside from “>” which I used. The “URL” if you notice uses the %s as the parameter value. It tells the browser to replace that with whatever you enter on the omnibar.

5) Click OK, then Close.

6) To use this, just go to the omnibar or address bar and enter your keyword. I typed “>” without the quotes + my search query.

4

Google Chrome automatically replaces your keyword with the “Name” that you entered in Step 4.

After you’ve entered your search query, hit ENTER on your keyboard.

Google Chrome will now automatically take you to the first search result. This is very helpful for quick navigational searches especially when there is a single good result like “Gmail”, “Yahoo Mail”, “Amazon”, “IMDB”, “Wikipedia”, etc.

Hope this short tutorial helps.
