It’s Earth Day today, and that got me thinking about what we’re doing for the environment. Some of the things we do are for personal practicality, but it turns out some of those practices help the earth too!
Canada’s Web Shop uses network based services to share information and products between employees as a matter of speed and efficiency in our daily workflows, but the result of that is a nearly paperless office. It’s odd to find the printer out of paper, because we just don’t use much!
Our transportation and parking costs have gone up since we’ve moved to our new Downtown Winnipeg location. In an effort to offset that, the Web Shop is a participant of the Winnipeg Transit’s EcoPass program which helps to reduce the cost of bus passes, and is a good incentive to promote rapid transit for employees. Some of us live in parts of the city that are near each other, and often carpool. These things have been great money savers, but also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, wear and tear on our vehicles, and possibly more importantly to Winnipeggers, help with the potholes!
What about your company? Is there anything your company does to save money and to helps the earth?
