I like to listen to one station going to work as it gives good local and Canada wide news and it also offers good timely traffic tips so I know where to avoid on my way downtown. But along the way I hear a lot of ads and here are some of the annoying radio tactics I hear and some of the good ones.
Annoying Radio ad tactics:
- Radio spokespeople who whisper on the air (speak up I cannot hear you!)
- Advertisers who point listeners to their ad in the yellow pages (can you sound anymore out of date with the online world)
- Ads that are played over and over again that are supposed to be humorous but are certainly not humorous after the 100th time.
- Annoying jingles (although I feel these do work at times as you catch yourself singing them afterwards, that is a win for the advertiser).
- Include a domain that no one can remember www.hot dash dash companyname deals dot net
Radio Tactics I like:
- Ask listeners to Google my company name (most companies with their advertising together come up locally for their name). This also affects personal search as the more you search a company name and click on it the more likely in personal search that Google will think this site is the best search result for you.
- Have a short call to action domain like www.wefityou.com (one of our clients www.canadianfootwear.com uses this its short and snappy ) that entices the visitor to go to when they get to work or home. This increases the chance of the advertiser getting more bang out of their buck by getting prospects to their landing web page to give them more information and impress them more with your offering. This is more affective than the standard visit us at www.companyname.com (consumers often need a reason to go to your site unless they are actively searching for a product or service : Search Engine Optimization (SEO) anyone?)
- Timely advertising, if there is a sale on in a certain timeline most consumers interested want to know. But please do not be one of those advertisers that is having a sale every weekend, everyone knows this is not possible. We have a mattress company locally here that has a sale ad every 2 weeks, personally I would rather here about what differentiates your sale from the current competition and you better be sure to prove that online when I go to research before I take the time to drive to your store.
