Social Statistics to be aware of

I visited a client last week that mentioned they do not have the internal staff to implement a social media strategy.  I recommended having a plan to develop staff that can be involved in their social media strategy.  I mentioned that social media is not going away and just like websites and search engine optimization you will have to implement a strategy for this component of online marketing.  He agreed but if he said why I would have mentioned a couple of these stats:

  • Number of people joining LinkedIn daily: 67,000+
  • People on Facebook worldwide: 520,000,000
  • People that join Facebook each day 830,000+
  • Number of minutes the average user spends on Facebook: 55
  • Consumers that are more likely to buy if engaged by social sites: 50%
  • In 2009, 63 percent of companies planned to increase their social media marketing budgets.
  • 85% of all marketers indicated that their social media efforts have generated exposure for their businesses.
  • The world now spends over 110 billion minutes per month on social networks and blog sites. This equates to 22 percent of all time online or one in every four and half minutes.
The consumer is changing as well.  Are you changing your marketing strategy?

BOOMERS

All about propriety. Trained in formalities, don’t offend, guarded means safe, not so great with “random.” Suit & tie = trustworthy

GENS X&Y

All about affinity. Formalities ignored, sharing means being found, tech is easy, life is random. Suit & tie = untrustworthy.
