Santa, they say, has been around for at least 16 centuries; handing out gifts and good will to all. I think it’s a safe bet to assume Santa knows a thing or two about society and how to communicate a message. As a wise and worldly fellow, it would seem Santa is no stranger to social media either. Santa Claus has a Twitter account @santaclaus, a Facebook Fan Page and you can even track his progress courtesy of Norad. So what can Santa teach us about social media?

One of the tactics that we advise customers to utilize is a bi-monthly or quarterly email blast.   What we like about this tactic is it accomplishes four objectives:

  1. Keeps your brand top of mind with your customers.
  2. Shows you are the expert when you inform and offer valuable information to your customers.
  3. Informs your customers of new information regarding your business (new products, product updates etc.)
  4. Increases visitation to your website

In 1687 Sir Isaac Newton gave us The Universal Law Of Gravitation, which predicts the attractive force between all objects that contain mass. It states that every object exerts a force on every other object along the line joining their centers. There are two simple rules to understanding gravity:Apple Search Engine Optimization

1. The larger the object the greater the force
2. The closer the object the greater the force

Not only does this tell us why an apple falls to earth rather than floating off into space, it also provides an understanding  into the way our universe functions. Now, if you apply a little lateral thinking, you will see that these simple rules provide valuable insights into how to grow your business by attracting more targeted visitors to your website. I recently bumped into an old friend who shares my background in both formal and informal education. We both studied marketing at the Asper School of Business and spent half a decade together studying sales techniques on Polo Park’s chaotic floors. Our paths haven’t strayed too far as we’ve both taken on positions as sales and marketing professionals within the online product / service industry. We met last week and I was excited to learn what an opportunity my company has to help out my old friend. His company doesn’t have an online marketing plan!

I have been to a few sales courses and networking events where the speaker mentions if you make connections for others they will return the favor and your business will grow.   When I heard that I thought no I have to concentrate on my connections and others can make their own.  Then I started watching a seasoned networker that has kind of taken me under his wing and that is exactly what he did.  He connected me to a lot of people and preached the good word about my business and my business grew.

As part of my work here at Web Shop I help create and manage a number of Facebook Pages for businesses looking to connect with their clients and fans. Facebook pages offer countless ways to customize your presence on Facebook through countless third party applications such as the FBML (Facebook Markup Language) application and also native applications such as the photos and videos applications. Functionality such as sharing, viewing and tagging photos on Facebook has become so easy, that I for one take it for granted, until today.
