Thursday, January 26th, 2012What is Yellow Pages Offering for Search Marketing Solutions?
Friday, October 28th, 2011In order to compete in any industry it helps to know what your competition is offering in the marketplace. As everyone knows Yellow Pages has entered into the online marketing world as they have seen the demand for their printed book in rapid decline.
We have been approached by a number of prospects that have entered into agreements with Yellow Pages that were not happy with the return on investment. In talking to these prospects the scary part was they did not seem to have a good understanding of what Yellow Pages was offering them. If asked they would say that it is search engine optimization. Then I would ask them what terms they were trying to gain ranking for in Google and Yellow Pages could give them certain terms. I would run a ranking report and the prospect’s site and it was nowhere to be found in the natural (organic) search results.

Speak to the Right Target Through Landing Page Research
Tuesday, May 17th, 2011A great practice to incorporate in to your Google Analytics review is a monthly check of your top landing pages. A landing page is the first page a visitor to your website sees when they are referred to your site from different sources. For instance, someone who lands on your website from a search engine might land on a different page according to what keyword they used to find you. {Did you know that Search engines index pages of a website not an entire website?} The traffic sources section will tell you where visitors are coming from to each landing page.
Shifting Fortunes of the Big Three

In July 2004 a billboard appeared in the heart of Silicon Valley posing a complex mathematical problem. The billboard was completely anonymous and read: “{first 10-digit prime found in consecutive digits e}.com.” The answer was 7427466391.com which led the mathematically minded to a Web page posing another equation to solve. Solving the second equation would lead someone to a page on Google Labs which stated:
One thing we learned while building Google is that it’s easier to find what you’re looking for if it comes looking for you. What we’re looking for are the best engineers in the world. And here you are.
As you can imagine, we get many, many resumes every day, so we developed this little process to increase the signal-to-noise ratio.
What Can Sir Isaac Newton Tell Us About SEO?
Friday, December 17th, 2010In 1687 Sir Isaac Newton gave us The Universal Law Of Gravitation, which predicts the attractive force between all objects that contain mass. It states that every object exerts a force on every other object along the line joining their centers. There are two simple rules to understanding gravity:
1. The larger the object the greater the force
2. The closer the object the greater the force
Not only does this tell us why an apple falls to earth rather than floating off into space, it also provides an understanding into the way our universe functions. Now, if you apply a little lateral thinking, you will see that these simple rules provide valuable insights into how to grow your business by attracting more targeted visitors to your website. Let me explain.
The Value of Search Engines to the Traditional Marketer
Thursday, October 14th, 2010People not only make purchases online, but conduct research to influence and dictate purchase decisions. If you have potential customers within your target market using the internet in this way, the goal is to have your company name, products and/or services in front of those potential customers.
The Big List of Search Engine Optimization DON’TS – Part 1
Thursday, August 13th, 2009Search Engine Optimization is still one of the most under-appreciated elements of web development. Time and time again I see sites that either have only bits and pieces of SEO effort implemented, none at all or worse – SEO that has been done all wrong.
At Search Engine Strategies Toronto in 2007 and 2008 I spoke on the topic of SEO Don’ts Myths and Scams. I covered the “don’ts” part of the panel and that’s what I’m going to share with you now.
